Q: Differentiate between Open system, closed system, and isolated system?
Ans.: In open system both mass and energy transfer takes place.
In closed system energy transfers but mass does not transfer across the boundary.
In Isolated system neither mass, nor energy transfer takes place across the boundary.

Q: State Zeroth Law of Thermodynamics.
Ans.: The Zeroth law of thermodynamics states that if two separate thermodynamic systems are each in thermal equilibrium with a third, then all three are in thermal equilibrium with each other.

Q: State First Law of Thermodynamics.
Ans.: First law of thermodynamics states that Energy can neither be created nor be destroyed. But it can be transferred from to another.

Q: State Second Law of Thermodynamics.
Ans.: Second Law of Thermodynamics states that the entropy of the universe increases during any spontaneous process.

Q. State Third Law of Thermodynamics.
Ans.: Third Law of Thermodynamics states that entropy of the system approaches constant value as the temperature approaches absolute zero.

Q: What is Charles' law?
Ans.: The volume of a given mass of an ideal gas is directly proportional to its temperature on the absolute temperature scale (in Kelvin) if pressure and the amount of gas remain constant.
It is also known as the law of volumes.

Or

Where:
V is the volume of the gas
T is the temperature of the gas (measured in Kelvin).

k is a constant.

Q: What is enthalpy?
Ans.: Enthalpy is the heat content of a chemical system. It is a measure of total energy of a thermodynamic system.

Q: Which conducts heat faster steel or copper or brass?
Ans.: Copper conducts heat faster than steel or brass.

Q: State Stefan–Boltzmann Law.
Ans.: The total energy radiated per unit surface area of a black body in unit time is proportional to the fourth power of the thermodynamic temperature.

σ = 5.670 x 10-8 Wm-2K-4

Q: Differentiate between Intensive and Extensive properties of a system.
Ans.:
Intensive properties are those that are independent of the size of the system such as temperature, pressure and density.
Extensive properties are those that are depend on the size of the system such as mass, volume and total energy.
